We only have to sit through one more non-conference game until we get what we've all been waiting for, B1G play. While some of our conference games may not actually be any more difficult than Bowling Green or South Florida, at lease they're against familiar teams with fans that you can actually hate. What has South Florida ever done to me? Penn State on the other hand, well...
To put it bluntly, South Florida isn't that good. They managed 2 wins last year and brought in a new coach, but I don't think they will pose any real threats. The oddsmakers have Wisconsin at -34 which seems about right. South Florida doesn't have much to brag about, but they do have a couple of bright spots that will test the Badgers throughout the game.
South Florida has a freshman running back who apparently runs the ball pretty well. I won't sit here and pretend that I've seen a single snap of South Florida football this year, but that's what the experts on the internet are telling me. On the other side of the ball, the Bulls possess a pretty decent rush defense. This will be a good test before we step up the competition level. Obviously I don't think Melvin will run for another 250 in the first half (it would be nice if he could), but if he can eclipse the 175 yard marker for the game, I would consider that a success.
The one thing that worries me a little is if they begin to stack the box and make Tanner air it out. Obviously he played well last game, but I probably could have done just as well with those running totals. If they crowd the line and make him do more than throw 5 yard slant and out patterns, I'm still not convinced he possess the tools to spread the field with accurate 20+ yard passes.
I will be in Madison celebrating gameday for the second time in as many years, so don't count on any type of postgame synopsis. I will simply direct you to ESPN, because I'll probably be heading there about 3 hours after the game too in order to see what happened too.
Lap On, Wisconsin.
