Denver Broncos
guard John Moffitt
has decided to give up football at the age of 27.
The
Broncos
placed Moffitt on the reserve/left squad list Tuesday after he failed to report
to the team after the Week 9
bye. Center J.D. Walton was activated from the reserve/physically unable to
perform list to take his roster spot.
Moffitt,
the No. 75 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, is doing some "soul-searching"
due to his lack of playing time, a source close to Moffitt told the Denver
Post.
It
sounds like Moffitt has already found his answer. The former Seahawks
guard said to Dave "Softy" Mahler of KJR-AM Seattle on Tuesday that
he's "ready to live a different kind of life"
outside of football.
Is there anything more frustrating in this world than when
someone gives something up that you would kill to have? John Moffitt quitting
professional football makes about as much sense as Derek Jeter dumping Minka
Kelly. Actually, probably less, because Jeter’s gonna get another girl just as
hot as Lyla Garrity, but I don’t think John Moffitt is gonna get some other job
that pays him millions of dollars to do relatively nothing.
You’re a backup in professional sports – That is the ideal
life. Your job is a game. You’re compensated very well to play it. There is no pressure on you whatsoever.
Not to mention, walking out on the Broncos is turning your back on a great
chance to win a ring. And most importantly, girls don’t know the difference
between you and a starter unless you’re the quarterback anyway (except for my
buddy’s mom that Moffitt tried to bring home from Wando’s one time when he was
still playing for Wisconsin – she knew).
