When
a groom in India failed to show up for his wedding this week, a guest stepped
up to marry the bride instead. P. Ponradha,
23 was set to be married to J. Sithiraivelu, 35, on Wednesday in the
Tamil Nadu town of Lakshmimanagaram, according to The Star's translation of
Tamil daily newspaper Malaysia Nanban.
The
festivities were already starting on Tuesday evening when the bride's family
learned the groom had vanished after an argument with his family. According to
the Times of India, "the bride's family went into a frenzy, as
a stopped marriage would affect the girl's future."
The
frenzy subsided, however, when a second man, 30-year-old relative of the bride
named Sivakumar, volunteered to marry her instead.
The
wedding then took place as per the schedule, much to the relief of the family.
The other guests who had come there also congratulated and appreciated
Sivakumar for his timely gesture.
So the other night I was watching that episode of The
Office where Pam gets engaged to Roy on the booze cruise right before Jim’s
about to tell her how he feels. That got me thinking about how being at your
dream girl’s wedding would probably be the absolute worst situation you could
ever be in. Like imagine Jim sitting through Pam’s wedding – literally makes me
feel sick to my stomach just thinking about it.
Then Sivakumar steps in and changes the game
completely. Because there’s always the chance they won’t go through with
getting married – and on the off chance that happens, you’d never forgive
yourself if you weren’t there for the rebound. So does that mean you actually
have to go to your dream girl’s wedding? That’s a tough call to make – all I
know is that Sivakumar took a gamble on P. Ponradha, and it paid off. Except for
them being cousins or whatever.
PS – I feel like if I got left at the altar, I’d
probably marry literally anyone in the room if they wanted to step in like
Sivakumar did. Somehow trying to save myself from the embarrassment I guess.
