The women's volleyball team missed out on a chance at revenge last night, falling 3-0 to #3 Penn State. But perhaps more noteworthy than what happened on the court was the crowd watching. The UW Fieldhouse was sold out for the rematch last year's National Championship, which personally I can never remember happening for any women's sport. Last year I think the women's basketball team was giving out free pizza to try to get people to come to the games. Maybe last night's sellout is a ringing endorsement for all women's sports to be played in spandex, but it may also just be that the volleyball team has played their way into relevance on campus, which few women's teams in any sport on any campus ever get to say.
